Bear Hunt (previously called Big Foot Stomp) is our own original composition, inspired by the book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, to practice simple rhythmic playing with foot stomping, “sshhh”s in the quiet section B.
It introduces sharps (F#).

The arrangement has 2 parts for players of different ability and experience, but there is an optional Part 3 for absolute beginners and uses only the notes C and B.
It is in 3 sections:
Section A is jolly and relaxed, played at a moderate tempo (speed) at mf (mezzo forte – a bit loud but not too loud) – imagine a nice walk out in the countryside, birds singing. The players stomp their feet in places!
Section B is quiet and soft (p for piano) and slow – imagine we’ve just entered a spooky wood where bears live and we have to go very quietly on tiptoes! The players “sshhh” in places. They suddenly get very loud and shout “A BEAR!” at the end of section B before running for home in section C!
Section C is a repeat of section A but faster and louder – imagine we think we’ve seen or heard a bear and now we’re running out of the woods back home!
You can listen to the 2-part arrangement with drum beats in place of foot stomping and cymbal sounds in place of “sshhh”s!
